SAD! Train crushes female Youth Corps member “distracted by earphone” in Lagos
A female National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, identified only as Debbie, was yesterday knocked down by a moving train in the Ikeja area of Lagos State.
Debbie’s hands and leg, according to reports, were left seriously mangled after the accident.
An eyewitness said the accident victim was not aware of the train as she was engrossed in her phone.
“The train was not moving at a high speed. People tried to call her attention to the incoming train but she didn’t yield to the call as she continued pressing her mobile phone,” the witness is quoted as saying.
“I was looking at her from where I stood and saw her with an earpiece plugged into her ears which made her unable to hear the sound of the incoming train.
“Many passers-by tried to pull her out of the rail line but she ran towards the moving train which crushed parts of her body.”
Debbie was rushed to an undisclosed hospital, and there are unconfirmed reports that she didn’t survive the incident.
Newsroom Daily reliably gathered that Debbie is a Stream 2 17B Corp member, who was going through her clearance before the incident.
Debbie’s Local Government Inspector (LGI), Mr Greg Oleghe hasn’t picked calls made to his phone by Newsroom Daily. A message sent to his phone has not been responded to either at the time of this report.
