Robbers kill University lecturer, husband in Yola

A lecturer at Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Dr, Elizabeth Malgwi, 63, and her husband, Dr Mwajim Malgwi, 73 have been reportedly killed by suspected armed robbers in Yola, Adamawa state.

The couple who were on their way back from paying their workers at the farm were ambushed by hoodlums who are believed to have been tipped off by someone among their employees.

“We are still investigating since it has to do with money, probably someone must have whispered to the gunmen who carried out the attacks,” the police spokesperson, Othman Abubakar said.

The police reveals that the couples were shot dead when their car rammed into a tree and got stuck as they tried to out-maneuver their assailants.

Expressing disappointment over the incident, Dr Birma Sawa, the President of Garkida Development Association, an organization in which the Malgwis were patrons implored the police to find the perpetrators of the gruesome act and bring them to justice.

“This particular act carried out against our father, brother and member and his wife is one too many. We in the GDA cannot and will not pretend at this time that all is well with the deterioration of security of life and properties of citizens in Adamawa State,” Dr Sawa said.

Although initial reports concluded that the attack was carried out by Fulani herdsman, the police says that the assertion was untrue. Abubakar confirmed that the police is still investigating the murder.
