Rivers Pipeline Explosion: Police Arrest Two Suspects as Investigation Unfolds

Canadian, Nigerian Suspects in Police Net for Multimillion-Dollar Scams

The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two suspects linked to the explosion that rocked a section of the Trans-Niger Pipeline (TNP) in the Bodo community, Gokana Local Government Area.

Authorities say the individuals are currently undergoing interrogation as part of efforts to determine whether the incident was an act of sabotage.

The explosion, which occurred late Monday night along the Bodo-Bonny road, sent thick plumes of smoke into the night sky, as captured in viral social media videos. The TNP, a critical oil transport infrastructure, plays a key role in delivering crude oil to the Bonny export terminal, raising concerns over potential disruptions to the region’s oil supply and environmental safety.

In an official statement, the police disclosed that a security operative alerted authorities to the blast, prompting immediate containment measures, including shutting down the affected pipeline to prevent further damage.

“The situation has been brought under control, and there is no further threat to residents or the environment,” the police assured.

Reaffirming their commitment to public safety, the statement added:

“The Command remains committed to ensuring that perpetrators of criminal activities are identified and brought to justice. We urge residents to remain calm and vigilant as we continue to protect lives and property.”

The pipeline incident comes at a politically charged moment in Rivers State. On Monday, lawmakers loyal to Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), initiated impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
