Rivers CSO Disputes Police Account, Denies Involvement in Ahoada East Attack
Hector Ekeakita, chief security officer (CSO) of Ahoada East local government area (LGA) in Rivers state, has denied police claims that he led hoodlums to assault Goodluck Iheamnacho, the council’s sole administrator.
Ekeakita made the denial on The Morning Brief, a Channels Television programme, following a statement by the Rivers police command that he, alongside the council’s chief of staff, led about 30 hoodlums to Iheamnacho’s office on Friday.
Grace Iringe-Koko, spokesperson of the command, said the attackers assaulted the administrator and forced him to sign a resignation letter. A video of the incident surfaced online shortly after a letter of resignation, dated June 20, began circulating.
However, Ekeakita insisted he was not involved in the attack, saying, “As the CSO of the LGA, why will I do such a thing (attack)? Why would I venture into carrying hoodlums to attack the man I’m working with?”
Narrating his account, Ekeakita said, “That day, when I heard the noise coming from the administrator’s office, I barged into the office. He (Iheamnacho) asked me to shut the door that the matter is between him and his political appointees, who he has not paid since May. I had to go back to my office to continue my daily activities.”
He added, “When the noise was too much I tried to call the police but the line was not going through.”
Ekeakita claimed he does not know whether Iheamnacho was attacked, stating, “He did not say that hoodlums attacked him… the bit on thugs was issued by the police.”
