Rivers Assembly Faction Issues 48-Hour Ultimatum to Governor Fubara Over 2025 Budget
March 3, 2025
The political turmoil in Rivers State deepened on Monday as the Martin Amaewhule-led faction of the state House of Assembly gave Governor Siminalayi Fubara a 48-hour deadline to present the 2025 appropriation bill.
The lawmakers, aligned with Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike, issued the ultimatum during their plenary session, escalating tensions in the already fractured legislature.
This development follows Fubara’s decision in January 2025 to sign the budget into law after it was passed by a rival faction of the assembly, led by Victor Oko-Jumbo. The Rivers Assembly has been split into two opposing camps, reflecting the ongoing power struggle between Wike and Fubara.
