PSP operators accept new challenge to rid Lagos of dirts

PSP operators in Lagos State have welcomed the decision of the state House of Assembly to allow them resume waste collection duties.

Lawmakers in the state, on Thursday, urged PSP operators to take over the waste management crisis as they effectively ruled Visionscape a failure.

Speaker of the House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, had directed that the Commissioner for Finance should stop releasing money to Visionscape, with claims that Governor Akinwunmi Ambode had engaged the foreign company without the executive’s approval.

The PSP operators’ spokesperson, Olugbenga Adebola, said in reaction to the new development that the lawmakers have “lived up to the expectation and yearnings of all well-meaning Lagosians.”

“We want to thank the Speaker, Right Honourable Mudashiru Obasa, for his tenacity and consistency in speaking the truth always,” Adebola said on behalf of the operators.

“We equally thank Honourable Gbolahan Yishawu for listening to the general complaints by Lagosians on the current waste management regime in the state.

“History will not forget this heroic act.

“We were denied access to the Transfer Loading Stations in the state for over two years, therefore, the resolution that all dumpsites and TLSs be opened to PSP operators is in the right direction.

“This is because the disposal sites are the bedrock of any meaningful waste management system,” the PSP operators added.

The operators who had resented Ambode for sidelining them, said they looked forward to sitting down with relevant authorities to discuss and work out the implementation of the Assembly’s resolutions.
