President Tinubu to Depart Nigeria Today for Ramaphosa’s Inauguration in South Africa
President Bola Tinubu will depart Lagos for Pretoria, South Africa, on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, to attend the inauguration ceremony of President Cyril Ramaphosa. This event marks Ramaphosa’s re-election for a second term as the President of South Africa.
Ajuri Ngelale, the presidential spokesman, made the disclosure in a statement on Monday.
Ramaphosa’s re-election was confirmed on Friday, June 14, 2024, when the National Assembly cast its votes. Ramaphosa secured 283 votes, while Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema garnered 44 votes. The election came after Ramaphosa’a party, the African National Congress (ANC), agreed to a power-sharing deal with opposition parties, including the Democratic Alliance (DA) and Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP).
While Ramaphosa’s inauguration is set for June 19, Ngelale added that President Tinubu will return to Nigeria after the ceremony without disclosing his expected date of return.
