President Tinubu Signs Record-Breaking N54.99 Trillion 2025 Budget into Law
President Bola Tinubu has officially signed the historic N54.99 trillion 2025 appropriation bill into law, marking a staggering 99.96% increase from the N27.5 trillion budget of 2024.
The budget, initially proposed at N49.7 trillion, underwent revisions by the National Assembly before its final approval on February 13. This substantial increase underscores the government’s intensified focus on economic expansion, infrastructure development, and debt servicing.
A breakdown of the 2025 budget highlights key allocations, including:
Total expenditure: N54.99 trillion, Statutory transfers: N3.65 trillion,Recurrent (non-debt) expenditure: N13.64 trillion, Capital expenditure: N23.96 trillion, Debt servicing: N14.32 trillion, Deficit-to-GDP ratio: 1.52%
With the significantly expanded budget, the Tinubu administration aims to drive economic growth while managing fiscal sustainability. However, the sharp rise in spending has also raised questions about funding sources and Nigeria’s long-term debt strategy.
