Pregnant woman crushed to death as rain wrecks havoc on Lagos community

While residents in other parts of Lagos enjoyed the rains on Monday night, it was a different story for those in Ikola-Ilumo, an area in Ipaja.

The rain, preceded by heavy breeze, left in its wake devastating ruins.

Roofs, walls, poles were brought down in a blink of an eye.

We were shouting “Jesus Jesus, it was scary” a resident said to Newsroom Nigeria.

On Monday morning when our correspondent visited the Powerline Rd of the area, residents were busy fixing what was left of their buildings.

Others gathered in numbers, mourning a pregnant woman who wasn’t so lucky to escape the chaos.

Residents were in no mood to discuss the victim with our correspondent, as they wore grim faces.

The downpour on Monday is not one they are going to forget in a hurry, and the fear of a similar occurrence as we enter the rainy season is a serious cause for worry.

“We are still scared of what is to come,” another resident told us.

Perhaps, what is more scary, is that several buildings in the area are directly built under power lines, and a snap of one of those lines would wreck more devastating havoc.
