A rally held by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in support United States President-elect, Donald Trump has reportedly turned violent.

Hundreds of Biafra agitators had taken to the streets of Port Harcourt to show their support for Trump as the Republican gets sworn-in on Friday (today).

Reports say the group, which included people from different states in the south-east, used the rally to demand for the creation of Biafra state.

A witness explained to Punch that some of the advancing IPOB members, who were carrying and waving Biafra, American and Russian flags refused to stop when they were asked to do so.

Attempts by security forces to stop them reportedly resulted in violent clashes. It is still unclear how many people have been injured in the clash.

Members of the group have alleged that some Biafra agitators were shot dead by security operatives, but police in Port Harcourt deny that was the case.

The incident reportedly forced shop owners to close their businesses for the day.

The pro-Biafra group are endorsing Trump in the hope that he would recognise their fight for independence, especially after the bombastic politician made comments about “self-determination” in regards to the UK leaving the European Union.
