Police drop charges against housemaid, 14, who “poisoned boss’ food” in Ondo
The 14-year-old housemaid who allegedly poisoned her 63-year-old boss will be let go, the Ondo State Police Command has said.
Mary Akinnifesi was said to have put rat poison in Alhaji Nasiru Akinlosotu’s food at his residence in the state a week ago.
Akinlosotu had, at the time, said the girl confessed to the crime, saying she wanted to revenge all the alleged beatings and punishments he subjected her to.
Police say the victim has decided to drop charges against the girl.
“We are not going to prosecute the girl again because the complainant (Akinlosotu) has written to us to withdraw the case. So in that sense, there is nothing the police can do other than to obey the instruction of the complainant,” the state police spokesperson told newsmen on Tuesday.
“We intend to do our job but we don’t want a situation whereby we will get to the court and the court will say we are crying more than the bereaved, that is why we leave the case like that.”
