Police arrests 5 SARS operatives for harassing businessman in Lagos
Five Special Anti Robbery Squad operatives have been apprehended for allegedly harassing a businessman identified Immanuel James Ibe-Anyanwu.
Immanuel had put out a distress call that the operatives harassed and extorted him at Ago Palace Way, Okota area of Lagos.
Police spokesperson, Chike Oti, said on Tuesday that the men have been identified.
He gave the names of the offending officers as: Insp Taiwo Omojope, Insp Arigidi Ebibor, Sgt Rotimi Adesoba, Olalekan Olakunle and Friday Oni.
Oti said the operatives are from the Ipakodo Base of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) and not the Ikeja Unit as was previously reported.
He also said one Inspector Jude Akhoyemta who was earlier mentioned as being involved in the harassment was found to be innocent.
Oti said the suspects are currently undergoing interrogation at the Command’s X-Squad Section and would be marched before an Adjudicating Officer at the Police Provost Department for the commencement of their orderly room trial.
