Police arrest 23-year-old burglar for killing 75-year-old man in Osun

The Osun State police have arrested a 23-year old man identified as Julius Olatunji for allegedly killing a 75-year-old man identified as Ojo Durojaye.

Olatunji allegedly burgled the house of his victim and killed him on the spot.

The state police boss, CP Fimihan Adeoye, confirmed the arrest of the suspect on Tuesday in Osogbo, saying that the crime was committed on the July 19, 2018. Adeoye confirmed that Olatunji was arrested on September 5.

“On July 19, 2018, the suspect, Julius Olatunji, who lived opposite the residence of the deceased at Imesi Ile in the Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State, sneaked into the house of the deceased, who was incapacitated by ill health and was alone at home at about 12noon.

“The deceased was alone because the people living with him went out. The suspect attacked the 75 years old man, robbed him of his money, recharge cards, 25 litres of palm oil and other valuables yet to be estimated.

“In addition, the suspect hit the deceased on the head with a chair until he died. The suspect has been on the run since he committed the crime. He was arrested at his hideout in Ekiti State on September 5. Ever since he was arrested, he made a useful statement and confessed to the crime during interrogation,” Adeoye said.

The Commissioner said the suspect will be charged to court after investigation.
