Police arraign man for biting officer in Lagos
One Mafred Uchola has been arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate court in Lagos on Monday for allegedly biting a police officer on duty.
Police prosecutor, Insp. Aondohemba Koti, told the court that the 36-year old man committed the offence at Promiseland, Mushin area of Lagos on October 5th 2018.
Koti added that Uchola and others at large were arrested after police received a distress call that they were constituting public nuisance and were in possession of weed.
“The complainant and his team stormed the scene, on sighting the policemen, the accused and his accomplices took to their heels. Uchola was caught by the complainant, he assaulted the police officer in several ways in order to escape, but was overpowered by other policemen,” Koti said.
“A polythene bag containing a cutlass and weeds were recovered from him,’’ the prosecutor added.
Koti further said that the accused had gone against Section 57, 173 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Uchola pleaded not guilty to three charges – belonging to unlawful society, assault and conspiracy – against him, and was granted bail of N100,000.
Magistrate Tanimola adjourned the case to November 19 for further hearing.
