Police apprehends man for brutally killing wife over allegations of infidelity
A 32-year old man, Jibrin Abu from Dabogi village in Lapai area of Niger state has been arrested by police operatives from Lapai division for killing his wife, Victoria Aliyu.
The suspect who showed no sense of remorse said that he was provoked into committing the crime because of his wife’s infidelity.
He went on to accuse the deceased of sleeping around with men from the village and how he has been warning her to desist from such acts.
The latest incident that led to the murder was when Victoria answered a call in the presence of her husband. Abu suspected the call to be from one of her lovers, and in that rage, he reportedly struck her with a large stick that got her killed.
The suspect derided his late wife, calling her ‘disgrace to womanhood’. He recounted how his wife used to bring men into their matrimonial home.
“My culture does not tolerate such acts. That was why I killed her to save the family from shame,” he said.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of Niger State Police Command, Muhammed Abubakar said the suspect confessed to the crime and had intended to commit suicide by drinking sniper. However, he was rescued by police operatives who rushed him to Lapai General Hospital.
Abubakar added that Abu was resucitated at the hospital and will be charged to court in the course of time.
