Pilot killed in Georgia plane crash

A small plane crashed in a residential neighborhood in Marietta, Georgia, on Friday, killing the pilot and destroying the home, police said.

The cause of the crash is unknown but the pilot had radioed in a problem with the plane’s autopilot function moments before the crash.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the Cessna Citation I aircraft was en route to the Fulton County Airport when it went down in Cobb County, outside Atlanta on Friday evening. The flight originated in Cincinnati.

Witnesses told WSB-TV Atlanta the plane was in a nosedive when it narrowly missed hitting the house directly and instead crashed on the front lawn.

No one on the ground was injured, but the home sustained heavy damage after the plan crashed directly in front of it, causing a fire. The Atlanta Journal Constitution reported the family was at church at the time of the incident.
