In photos: Fire and fireworks as Dubai celebrates new year

Every year, the world’s tallest skyscraper, located in Dubai, plays host to a fireworks display to usher in the new year.

Yesterday’s took a slight twist when 63 storey Address Downtown hotel caught fire about three hours to the commencement of the display.

The fire started on the 20th floor

Within minutes it had taken a hold

Fire men were not long in coming

And evacuation began in earnest

And the battle with the fire commenced

But the fireworks display was not to be interrupted

And battling the fire continued till Friday morning
