Photo: When “humble” Barack Obama was Bill Clinton’s “servant”
Some Nigerians saw the photos here online and have been sharing them with captions depicting United States President Barack Obama a “humble” man.
They say “humble” Obama saw nothing wrong in helping Bill Clinton hold his jacket.
“That’s why he (Obama) eventually became president because he’s just too humble,” some say in effect.
There’s even a “motivational” meme to buttress their point.
But is that the case? Was this younger Obama actually holding Bill’s jacket?
Nurdin Temitayo Busari’s Facebook post is one of the keys to unlocking that question:
I have been noting all people on my friends list sharing and liking and commenting on that picture that Obama was holding Bill’s jacket and that was a sign of humility that pushed him to become president eventually. I know your names!
Poverty has an endemic impact that makes every action spiritual and every gesture evangelical.
I am now certain you all underwent salt bath during Ebola crisis. Thank you.
Ouch! That hurts. Too harsh.
And here’s what Enefaa Nkiru asked in a comment:
Do men wear suits over short sleeves that look like that?
The comment was posted to a thread Richard Ali started on Facebook.
Let’s see random comments from Nurdin’s and Ali’s thread:
Oluwatobi Moses Sotanmide:
You know what folks, methinks neither Obama nor Clinton is the subject of ‘inspiration’ in that photo, but that piece of laundry. Lol. Just try to carry one for Buhari, and fast forward 11 years, you are the president of Nigeria.
Tj Benson:
Kai I don’t know. But the inherited racial inferiority complex in me says the jacket is for Clinton.
Olukayode Adegoke:
Even a respected fellow I won’t name here shared the photo and his comments made my bones cringe. Something is really wrong with us o!
