Peter Obi Can Become Nigeria’s President in 2027 – Obidient Movement Leader Yunusa Tanko
Yunusa Tanko, the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, has expressed confidence that Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, can emerge victorious in the 2027 elections, despite the challenges faced in 2023. Tanko’s remarks came during a program in Onitsha, Anambra State, focused on strengthening the Obidient Movement’s impact.

Speaking at the one-day event, titled “Repositioning the Obidient Movement for Greater Impact,” Tanko emphasized that the movement was committed to promoting good governance and accountability, as well as addressing Nigeria’s pressing challenges. The symposium was organized by the Obidient Movement and Anambra State Support Groups at the All Saints Cathedral Auditorium on Saturday.

Tanko, who remains a key figure in the movement, outlined a bold vision for the future of Nigerian politics, stating, “Peter Obi has the potential to become Nigeria’s president in 2027 if we unite and put our efforts together. We are determined to ensure that our agents are well-prepared, well-trained, and ready for the 2027 general election.”
He also pointed to the electoral malpractice in the 2023 presidential election, which he believes denied Obi a rightful victory. “In the 2023 election, we were accused of lacking structure, yet Peter Obi won the election. Unfortunately, he was denied victory due to electoral malpractice. This time, history will not repeat itself,” Tanko asserted.

Tanko’s comments also addressed widespread discontent with the current government, particularly in northern Nigeria. He called for electoral reform, emphasizing that the Obidient Movement would advocate for changes both legally and physically. “We will mobilize our people on the streets and in the courts. We will present our proposals to the National Assembly. The time for meaningful change has come,” he said.
In addition to pushing for reform, Tanko urged the South East region to continue its support for the Obidient Movement, calling for free and fair elections that reflect the true will of the Nigerian people. He also emphasized the need for the appointment of an Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) chairman who would be independent of presidential influence, ensuring the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral process.
Prof. Stella Okunna, chair of the event, highlighted the importance of good governance and commended the movement for re-energizing its efforts. “It’s essential for the Obidient Movement to increase its visibility beyond party lines. Good governance is what we need, and this movement is pivotal in pushing that agenda,” Okunna said.

Valentine Ozigbo, Labour Party’s 2025 governorship aspirant for Anambra State, also addressed the gathering, stressing the importance of unity within the movement. He spoke about his vision for a better Anambra, referring to a document titled ‘Ka Anambra Chawapu’ which outlines policies to bring about a brighter and more prosperous future for the state. Ozigbo called on all Nigerians to unite and work together to wrest power from the current political establishment.

Speaking virtually, renowned economist Prof. Pat Utomi urged members of the Obidient Movement to act in synergy and remain proactive in their efforts. “We must work collectively to create a brighter future for Nigeria. The time for action is now,” Utomi said.
