“Pay N5000 fine or serve 2 months in prison” – Judge tells man who stole N170 in Abuja
A man in Abuja will serve two months in prison if he can’t come up with a N5,000 option of fine he was given by a Karmo Grade I Area Court.
Wisdom Gabriel, 22, was, on Tuesday, found guilty of stealing a box containing N170 at a chemist’s shop in old Karmo Market.
The prosecutor, Zannah Dalhatu, told the court that one Helen Atusu of old Karmo arrested and brought the convict to Karmo Police Station on March 24, 2017.
Atusu said Gabriel broke into her store on the said day and made away with the sum, before she raised alarm and he was caught with the help of one Chukwuma Eze.
NAN reports that the presiding judge, Mr. Abubakar Sadiq, handed down the sentence of two-month imprisonment on Gabriel.
Gabriel, who resides at Aiko Estate, Life Camp Gwarinpa, had pleaded guilty to the charge and prayed the judge temper justice with mercy.
He was, however, N5,000 option of fine.
