Panic as Delta Airline’s engine catches fire mid-air, five injured
Five passengers aboard a Delta Airline flight 55 have been confirmed injured after one of the of the A330-200’s two engines went up in flames Tuesday night.
The flight, however, landed safely and passengers exited the aircraft on the runway via emergency slides at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport.
The pilot had ordered all passengers to be evacuated within 90 seconds when the fire was noticed mid-air.
The airline said in a statement the injuries sustained by the passengers are “non-critical”.
“Delta is aware of five customers reporting non-critical injuries as a result of the evacuation,” the statement said.
“Delta is aware of five customers reporting non-critical injuries as a result of the evacuation.
“Delta teams have provided overnight hotel accommodations to customers and will re-book customers on an alternate Delta aircraft on Wednesday. The safety of Delta’s customers and crew members is always our top priority.”
Injured and traumatised passengers have been taken to hospitals around the airport for treatment.
