Oyo: Governor Ajimobi apologises to LAUTECH students in heavily edited video
Oyo State governor Abiola Ajimobi has released another version, a seemingly apologetic one, of a viral video in which he suggested to students nothing would happen even if he refused to pay striking lecturers.
Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) students have been off school since June, 2016. They seemed unruly while Ajimobi addressed them recently. That made the governor annoyed, and he said some things many now condemn.
“Is this the first time we’d be closing a school?,” he asked to the consternation of many of the students who have been home because their striking lecturers remained unpaid.
“Is that how you want to talk to me? Okay, do your worst and we will be waiting for you.
“Some of you must show little respect for constituted authority. Even if I don’t pay salary, I remain the constituted authority. Nothing changes that.”
A version of the video went viral over the weekend leaving many Nigerians in shock.
Ajimobi’s daughter, believed to have schooled overseas, added insult to injury by calling the students “manner-less children”.
Another version of the video is making rounds online. The heavily edited version is believe to have been released by Ajimobi’s media team.
The video contains cuts mashed up to present the governor’s side of the story. He seemed to soften his stance, and he promised the school would reopen before January ends.

Babajide Fadoju is Head of Digital Communications for the Oyo State Government.
“This is not an apology, it’s propaganda,” a LAUTECH student present when the governor addressed the students told NewsroomNG.
“I urge the governor’s media team to release the uncut video of the encounter,” he said.
