Oyo Board of Internal Revenue seals more than twelve banks in Ibadan

The Oyo State Board of Internal Revenue has today Monday sealed more than twelve banks in Ibadan, Oyo State, for not complying with the payment of Environmental Development Levy spanning over three years.

Diamond, Stanbic IBTC, Skye, FCMB and Heritage were among the banks that were shut as early as 9 am by some task force operatives of the state Inter-ministerial Enforcement Unit on the financial institutions to enforce tax compliance.

The operatives performed their assignment around, Agodi Gate, Secretariat Road, Challenge, Jericho, Bodija, UI, Dugbe, Mokola, Idi-Apea and other areas of the state capital.

Mr Bicci Alli, the Chairman of the board revealed the banks were owing levies ranging from N800,000 to N5, 000, 000, also adding that the banks had been given enough time to make the payments, after being written series of reminder letters.

Mr Alli said, “We wrote letters to them to perfect their books but they did not do the right thing. We published reminders in two national dailies but we did not get their response.

“It is unfortunate that we had to use this method to force them to do the right thing. It is a continuous exercise that will end at the end of the week.”
