Our Pastor Was Arrested Abroad for Saying ‘Ladies and Gentlemen’ – Adeboye
In a sermon delivered during the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) monthly thanksgiving service on Sunday, December 1, General Overseer Pastor Enoch Adeboye addressed a troubling incident involving one of the church’s pastors abroad. The pastor had been arrested for referring to a gathering as “ladies and gentlemen,” a gesture that, according to the authorities, failed to encompass all gender identities recognized in their culture.

Pastor Adeboye, speaking from the RCCG Throne of Grace in Lagos, described the incident as a disturbing reflection of the world’s growing disregard for traditional moral values. The message, broadcast to all RCCG parishes, was titled “My Father’s House,” and Adeboye used the moment to sound a warning about the worsening state of global issues, stating, “The end is nearer than you think.”
“The end times are upon us, and we are witnessing disturbing trends,” Adeboye stated. “One of my pastors abroad was arrested simply for addressing a crowd as ‘ladies and gentlemen.’ Some people took offense, claiming it was discriminatory and didn’t include those who don’t identify as either.”
This incident, according to the respected pastor, is a wake-up call for Christians around the world. “Things are getting worse, and this is a sign of the times,” he added.
But the disquiet didn’t end there. Adeboye also recounted a bizarre story of a woman who introduced her dog as her “husband.”

When questioned, she explained, “I took him to the vet before coming. He doesn’t talk.” The pastor expressed his shock and concern over how such absurdity is becoming normalized, particularly in a world that seems to be losing its moral compass.
These stories, Adeboye suggested, were just more evidence of a world slipping into moral decay—one that is edging ever closer to the return of Christ. He urged believers to stand firm in their faith, reminding them that God’s holiness must be upheld and that they must not allow the world’s values to dilute their commitment to Christ.
“Those of you already in Christ, take this matter seriously. Do not let anyone weaken your stand,” Adeboye warned. “The devil wants to harvest you, but you must not give him the opportunity. Jesus is coming back. I want to see you in my Father’s house.”
The sermon also touched on recent comments by the pastor about growing trends in fashion within the church. Pastor Adeboye had previously voiced disapproval of men sporting braided hair and women wearing heavy makeup, false eyelashes, and extravagant styles, especially within the ranks of church workers. During RCCG’s 72nd annual convention in August, he made it clear that such trends would no longer be tolerated on church altars.
