Opinion: Are Nigerian youths not tired of being called “The future of tomorrow”?

Psychologists say that the human mind is the most important feature in the body; this simply means that we cannot function appropriately if and when our mind is distorted. To the layman, the mind is somewhere in the body most preferably in the heart. This is not correct, because what we call our mind is actually a portion of the brain associated with thinking and problem-solving.

This narrative is not psychologically in nature, this narrative is a clarion call to the youths (age 50 below) of Nigeria to rise and take charge of their future. Are we not tired of being called “The future of Tomorrow”?  A wise man once said, “The only way to predict the future is to make it”. I believe the time has come for us to look inward and see that the people who call themselves our leaders, who happen to be at the helm of affairs of our country, do not have our best interest at heart. If you doubt me, then please do explain to me why over 90% of Nigerian politicians send their children overseas to study? This is reflective of the fact that they (Politicians) do not trust the educational system of our country yet we vote them in year, in year out.

Personally, I think it’s high time the youth “seized” power yes I use the word “seize” because we have to be intellectually aggressive, this is our future we are talking about. The youth constitute over 50% of the population; we are the bedrock of this country. If we decide not to vote for them and vote for a young man/woman like our self we will win; because they need us more than we need them. We have to stop being pawns in the hands of these band of thieves who call themselves our leaders, and the only way we can do that is by changing the way we think, as the saying goes “change the way you think; then you can change the way you live”. We possess what these old men don’t have, a fluid mind, theirs is crystallized. There is no room for innovation in the mind of a 60 something-year-old man, but the mind of a youth is the fountain of ideas. We cannot afford to take a back row seat about issues that concern our future; we must challenge the status quo. Nigerian youths must break free from the shackles of passiveness and take on an active role in securing a favourable future, we owe it to the unborn generation; I would not want to bring a child into this world when I have not made an effort in making the world a better place.

In relation to the just concluded election in Ekiti state, it is obvious that these guys are not joking if do not take well-calculated actions; we will be at the mercy of these sit-tight leaders. They are ready to keep us repressed with hunger; that’s why they will offer us N5, 000, and we will sell four years of our life, think of it, APC was sharing N5, 000, PDP N4, 000, any one of them that comes into office will want to recuperate the funds spent on the election.

Let us change our attitude towards political matters, let’s become more attentive to the workings of the government.

Little can be said, action (getting your PVC) is next, my fellow Nigerian youth, the present administration said they would bring change but very little has changed since they came into power, do you know that none of the current ministers is below 45 years. John F Kennedy was 43 years when he became the president of the United States, this can also happen in Nigeria if and only when the youths see it as a point of duty to restructure their mind from a passive observer to an active actor. W Clement Stone said, “What the mind of a man can conceive and believe he can achieve”. We can create a better future; we just need to change our mindset.
