Online Scam: Suspected fraudster lures American to Nigeria, allegedly rapes her severally

An alleged rapist of an American national, Mathew Adedoyin, has been arrested by the DSS.

Adedoyin’s victim, Tawanda Lynn Jackson was said to have arrived Nigeria two weeks ago, on November 11, after both formed a good relationship on social media.

But Jackson, according to the DSS, would later be held hostage by the suspect. The 46-year-old and a mother of five was allegedly raped severally.

Adedoyin has been arrested alongside an accomplice, Idowu Ayeni.

DSS Director Betty Adoki said that it was notified of the crime by the American Embassy in Lagos.

She said the investigations revealed that Adedoyin lured Jackson with false claims that he was a wealthy prince from Arogbatesu royal family of Ile-Ife, Osun State. The 40-year-old suspect allegedly also claimed to have a large cocoa and palm oil plantation where a lot of slaves worked for him.

“He said that his father was a former king of Ife Titun, Osun State and that he was heir apparent to the throne. He further cajoled the victim that he owns several buildings in Lagos, including where Jackson was held hostage in Abule Egba,” Adoki said.

“But the victim started to suspect foul play when he was losing patience and said he rented the place meanwhile, it was a ramshackle place he said his father owned.”

Adedoyin had booked Jackson’s accommodation at Protea Hotel, Ikeja, but Adoki said he cynically moved her to another hotel in order to prevent her being traced by the U.S. Embassy.

He allegedly also seized her International Passport, credit card and U.S Identity card.
