Ogun serial killer, Philip Ogunnaike

A suspected serial killer, Philip Ogunnaike, has pleaded that he and his accomplices be sentenced to death instead of being given the opportunity to defend themselves in court.

Ogunnaike was arrested in Ogun State last week after he had been declared wanted for killing at least three young girls, including his employer’s daughter in separate incidents in the state.

According to the police, the suspect’s method was to lure his victims into the forest, where he would tie them up, strangle them, and steal their phones and other valuables.

The investigation also revealed that Ogunnaike had escaped from the Ibara Correctional Centre about two years ago while being taken to the Magistrate Court in Isabo for an ongoing armed robbery case.

Spokesperson of the Ogun Police Command, Omolola Odutola, while announcing the arrest last Friday, said the suspect had confessed to killing the three victims and leaving their bodies in the forest.

Consequently, he led the police’s anti-kidnapping squad to multiple locations where the victims were murdered.

Ogun serial killer pleads for death sentence

Meanwhile, in an interrogation video shared by Odutola on her X page on Monday, October 7, 2024, the suspect serial killer detailed how he was lured into the act of killing after being initiated into the outlawed Eiye confraternity.

He mentioned one Danjuma and some other persons as those who introduced him to the cult group.

He, however, urged the police to ensure the arrest of Danjuma and other alleged accomplices, stressing that his only plea was to be sentenced to death when arraigned in court.

“I don’t want anything other than the police to arrest Danjuma and others who initiated me into the Eiye cult. If we get to court, they should not bother hearing our case, they should just go and kill us.

“But before they kill us, they should give me food so that I can eat before they kill me because those that I killed may just have finished eating before I killed them,” he said in Yoruba (now translated).
