Ogun police nab three suspected kidnappers, kill one

Three suspected kidnappers have been nabbed by the Ogun State police, while another member was shot dead.

35-year-old Yussuf Abdullahi and Audu Isa were paraded on Tuesday as members of the gang. The third suspect, Ali Mohammed, was said to have been injured and receiving treatment in a hospital.

Police boss in the state, Ahmed Iliyasu, said the dead member was fatally injured in a crossfire.

“The gang was in the state to kidnap two businessmen – Alhaji Shehu and Alhaji Kabiru,” Ilyasu said.

“When we got the intelligence, I mandated the men of the Federal Special-Anti Robbery Squad in the state to round up the hoodlums.

“The FSARS operatives technically trailed the bandits and accosted them in Abeokuta before they got to their targeted victims.

“On sighting the policemen, the suspects engaged them in a gun battle but later fell to the firepower of the police.

“At the end of the gun battle, one of the suspects was shot dead, while three were arrested.

“They have confessed during interrogation to have been involved in a series of robbery and kidnapping operations in many states in the northern and southern parts of the country.”

Seven AK-47 rifles, two pump action guns, seven magazines, 110 rounds of live 7.62mm ammunition and 100 rounds of live cartridges were said to have been recovered from the suspects.

Both Yussuf and Isa confessed that they were kidnappers, but Isa said it was Yussuf who brought the AK-47 rifles from Warri, Delta State, for the aborted operation.

The CP stated that they would be charged to court at the conclusion of police investigation.
