Ogun Flood: Four die, 3,800 persons rendered homeless – NEMA
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has disclosed that the flood experienced by Abeokuta, Ogun State, residents after a heavy rainfall last Friday killed four persons.
The agency also said the flood displaced 3,800 persons.
In Abeokuta North, 200 houses were also affected with an estimated 1,800 persons involved, according to the emergency officials.
NEMA confirmed that two persons are still missing, describing the flood as one of the worst to be suffered in the ancient city in recent times.
Residents are still counting their losses as properties worth millions of naira were lost to the flood.
It was gathered that areas affected by the incident include Iya Amolaso, Oke Lantoro, Lanfenwa, Totoro, Ijaye, Kuto and Kobiti areas of Abeokuta metropolis in Abeokuta South and Abeokuta North Local Government Areas.
South-West Zonal spokesman of NEMA, Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye said that the residents ignored sensitization and enlightenment carried out by the agency on the need for them to vacate flood prone areas.
