Ogun Customs declare war on smugglers, seize N51m Range Rover
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on routine patrol along Ibeji River around – Idogo – Ifoyintedo axis of the Command, Ogun State has announced some major breakthrough in its operations carried out by its men in the Idiroko axis.
They said they are ready to mitigate the menace of smuggling in the axis.
The Public Relations Officer, Ogun Area Command, Maiwada on Friday said that the officer who received a life threatening injury from smugglers on his arm and fingers, last week is responding to treatment.
According to Maiwada, full scale investigation is ongoing to ensure that such mindless, irresponsible and unpatriotic criminals are brought to book to face the full wrath of the law.
“We have sustained the tempo in our anti smuggling drive, a lot of contrabands have been seized by our men;most spectacular among the seizures is a brand new Range Rover (velar) 2018 model seized and tagged “the seizure of the month”.with The said a DPV of N51, 285, 154” he said.
A custom officer(name withheld) explained to journalists that “it is baffling why many Nigerians will bring out more than N49m to buy a car and will refuse to pay custom duty.”
Maiwada implored the media, traditional rulers and eminent personalities to play a greater role in exposing the activities of their wards that indulge in smuggling and perceive such as a legitimate way of livelihood.
