Oba of Lagos suggests Buhari is no “born again democrat”
Years before being sworn in as a democratically elected president, Muhammadu Buhari once truncated an allegedly corrupt democratic leadership and installed himself as the military dictator who’ll fix the mess.
It didn’t work. Buhari was thrown out of office by another military coup after apparently failing to deliver on his promises.
The president, while running for office in 2015 assured suspicious hearts he was no longer a military dictator but a “born again democrat”.
We’re not so sure the Oba of Lagos Rilwan Akiolu believes the president.
Under Buhari, the Nigerian secret service continually flout court orders and “corrupt” political rivals are detained without public trial. That’s just a couple of Buhari’s “despotic” tendencies.
Akiolu suggests the president, like the military man he probably still is, doesn’t listen to ideas from elsewhere.
“I advise him (Buhari) to know that he is no more a military man,” the revered monarch said during the unveiling of SunTrust Bank Limited on Monday.
“I am not afraid to say that.”
Buhari has also been quick to blame Nigerian woes on his predecessor Goodlukc Jonathan. Akiolu told the president to cut the crap.
“The measures they are taking on the rot of the past, honestly whether they like it or not, it was not totally the fault of former President Goodluck Jonathan,” the oba said.
“I don’t hide the fact that he (Jonathan) is my personal friend,” he said. Perhaps that’s why Akiolu is speaking out.
Buhari’s media aides, who seldom speak whenever tragedy claim Nigerian lives, are yet to issue a statement reaffirming their bosses “new life” as a “democrat”..
