NPF Launches Disciplinary Action Against Officers Caught Receiving Cash from Chinese Nationals

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has initiated disciplinary proceedings against a group of officers caught on video receiving N5,000 cash gifts each from Chinese nationals — a viral incident that has ignited outrage across social media platforms.

The video, which surfaced on Tuesday, shows uniformed officers lining up and smiling as they individually accept cash from a group of Chinese individuals. The footage quickly drew criticism from Nigerians online, with many calling the scene “shameful” and “a stain on the force’s integrity.”

In response to the uproar, NPF spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi released a statement on Thursday confirming that the officers involved have been identified and are currently facing disciplinary action.

“The Force has strongly condemned the conduct exhibited by the police officers in the video, describing it as unprofessional and unethical,” the statement read. “Their actions do not represent the established ethics, standards, and core values of the Nigeria Police Force.”

Adejobi emphasized the NPF’s zero-tolerance policy for unprofessional behavior, noting that such misconduct erodes public trust and tarnishes the image of the institution.

The statement also served as a warning to members of the public and corporate entities who engage police personnel for escort or security services. The NPF cautioned against any behaviour that could “degrade the integrity of its officers” or bring the force into disrepute.
