No sensitive material destroyed in fire outbreak at INEC office – Director
Barely 48 hours after a part of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) headquarters in Abuja went up in flames, the Media Centre of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at its national headquarters in Abuja was on Friday engulfed by fire.
The fire at the INEC office is the third incident of fire outbreaks at government offices in the past one week. Just last week, a section of the Accountant General of the Federation’s office in Abuja was also engulfed by fire.
INEC’s Director of Publicity and Voter Education, Oluwole Osaze-Uzzi, told TheCable that no sensitive document was destroyed in the fire incident.
“Yes, there was a fire incident. Fortunately, we have a fire unit in the office. It was put out.
“Some equipment and correspondence were affected. But no sensitive material was affected.”
Oluwole said the inferno was confined to an office in the huge complex.
He added that the fire only affected the office of the director of ”election and party monitoring” in the building.
