No casualty as 2-storey building collapses in Umuahia
In Amangwu Ohokobe Ndume, Umuahia North LGA of Abia State, a two – storey building is said to have collapsed.
This comes after a 3-storey building still under construction collapsed in June in Obingwu, Ukwa West LGA of Abia, killing five site workers.
The newly roofed building collapsed on Saturday evening, fortunately no one was in the building when it crumbled.
As at the time of report, the reason for the collapse has not been ascertained but some residents of who spoke to Journalists after the incident stated that substandard materials were allegedly used by the site Engineer while others blamed it on poor supervision of works.
The residents also said work was supposed to start on the interior parts of the house immediately after roofing but for some reasons, it was delayed.
A resident, Nkechi noted “The postponement was the saving grace for the workers because if they were at work when the house collapsed, who knows what would have happened to them? ”
