NNPC’s statement on the explosion at Mobil filling station in Ikeja
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has released a statement addressing the explosion that occurred at the Mobil fuel station on Obafemi Awolowo way Ikeja, Lagos, which left eight vehicles destroyed and several people injured.
The corporation clarified that the explosion was not related to their newly commissioned Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) station, which is operating safely and was not affected by the blast.
According to eyewitnesses, the explosion occurred during a routine gas tanker discharge at the fuel station. The NNPC stated that they are working closely with the relevant authorities to investigate the cause of the explosion and prevent similar incidents in the future.

The company’s spokesman, Olufemi Soneye, reassured the public that the NNPC takes the safety of its operations very seriously and is committed to transparency.
The statement comes as the Lagos State Government has promised to take action to prevent similar disasters, with the Governor vowing to “leave no stone unturned” in the investigation.
By releasing this statement, the NNPC aims to reassure the public that they are committed to safety and transparency, while also clarifying the safety of their CNG station.
