NiMet forecasts three days of hazy conditions across Nigeria

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted sunny and hazy conditions across much of the country from Wednesday through Friday.

According to the agency’s outlook released on Tuesday in Abuja, the northern region is expected to experience predominantly sunny and hazy skies throughout the period. The central region will also see sunny and hazy conditions, while the southern states are likely to have sunny skies interspersed with clouds and occasional isolated thunderstorms.

NiMet noted that on Thursday, thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall may occur in parts of Ogun, Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states, particularly in the morning. Meanwhile, the north and central regions will continue to experience sunny and hazy conditions.

By Friday, the northern region will see morning sunshine and haze, with dust haze expected later in the day. The central states will remain sunny and hazy, while the southern region may experience cloudy skies with sunny intervals in the morning. Localized thunderstorms and light rainfall are expected in Anambra, Imo, Abia, Edo, Bayelsa, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers states, with afternoon thunderstorms possible in Ondo, Ogun, Imo, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Bayelsa.

NiMet cautioned that dust particles are currently suspended over the north-central region and advised residents, particularly those with asthma or other respiratory conditions to take necessary precautions. Motorists are also urged to drive carefully during rainfall. Airline operators are advised to consult airport-specific weather updates from NiMet for safe flight planning.
