Nigerian lady’s beautiful tribute to late friend will make you cry…and smile

Ejovwoke Ipheghe passed following a prolonged illness. Her friend, Tosin Ayodele, wrote the following tribute…

I met this elegant, beautiful, brilliant and young lady in my first year in the same class, in the University of Lagos. I was intrigued and caught by the way she read.

She read as though her life was dependent on it. We became friends, and as hostel mates in the Makama Bida hall, we were closer than before.

During the exam period, after we had done overnight reading, on our way to the Exam hall, she would hold scribbled notes which had the bullet points and formulas of every topic in each course.

While we walked down the route of campus shuttle park to the faculty, she was busy memorising these formulas. This educating madness didn’t make any meaning to me at first, until when eventually I had to join. Lol. The result of that madness was evident in our Diploma results.

Another most interesting opportunity I had with this captivating lady, (aside others) with every scintilla of evidence was when we were in 500 level. We would leave Moremi hall as early as 6am to read at lagoon front for a 2pm paper. We would explain to each other, as though we had no choice.

During this period, unlike her, on that fateful day, I was supposed to write two 4 unit courses: Law of Succession and Law of Evidence. After we had read the latter together before that day, I felt I still had more to read on.

In her sweet, calm, enticing , voice, she held my shoulder, tapped me and said “Tosin, you can go ahead to read your law of succession. Tell me the areas you think you need to read in law of Evidence. I Will read them and explain to you, when you are back from the Exam hall”.

With that word of assurance, I went ahead to read Succession. When I was done, we continued with that Law of Evidence. When the result came out, I had an “A” in Succession, and “B” in Evidence. We both excelled.

With so much tears in my eyes, and pain in my heart, I learnt that , that sweet lady of mine by name Ejovwoke Ipheghe, died this morning (May 15) after battling with a long illness. I am short of words now, and full of tears, as I feel stung yet to recover from this reality.

We ate together, played together, prayed and read together. I dialed her number as though I was expecting her to rise up and pick the call. Your demise will forever remain indelible in my heart.

As hot tears rolled down my eyes this afternoon, I could only look up to the heavens to say “Father, I thank you for this wonderful creature”.

Life is about impact. What will you be known for when leave this world? It is Ejoke today, it can be anybody tomorrow. A life without Christ is empty, meaningless, misguided and hell.
Ejoke , rest in peace!!!!!! I soooooooo much miss you Ejokeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
