#NigeriaDecides2019: Ajimobi loses bid to ‘retire’ to National Assembly
Governor Abiola Ajimobi has failed in his attempt to gain a seat at the National Assembly after losing the election to determine Oyo South Senatorial District’s representative in Oyo State.
Ajimobi has been confirmed to have lost to Dr Kola Balogun of the PDP in Saturday’s poll.
The governor polled 92,579 votes while Balogun polled 105,720 votes.
Prof Kolawole Akinsola of the University of Ibadan, the Returning Officer, declared Balogun winner of the poll on Monday in Ibadan.
“I, Prof Wole Akinsola, the returning officer for the Oyo South Senatorial District, declare that Kola Balogun of PDP, having satisfied the number required by the law, is the winner of the February 23 election and is returned elected,” Akinsola said.
Ajimobi is one of many state governors who are seeking to ‘retire’ to the National Assembly after serving two terms as governors of their respective states.
