Nigeria grants Air Algerie permit to commence flight operations from next month.
In a move set to enhance air travel between Nigeria and Algeria, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has issued a Foreign Carrier Operating Permit (FCOP) to Air Algérie, Algeria’s national airline.
The permit, a crucial requirement for foreign airlines operating commercial flights to and from Nigeria, was officially presented during a high-level meeting between Chris Najomo, Director-General of NCAA, and Hocine Mezoued, Algeria’s ambassador to Nigeria.
According to the NCAA, the discussions centred on strengthening bilateral cooperation in the aviation sector. The newly granted permit paves the way for expanded connectivity and economic collaboration between both nations.
“A key highlight of the meeting was the presentation of a Foreign Carrier Operating Permit (FCOP) to Air Algérie, the national airline of Algeria, enabling expanded connectivity, fostering economic ties, and strengthening mutual partnership,” the NCAA stated in a post on X.
Additionally, the aviation authority approved a new flight route connecting Algeria–Nigeria–Douala (Cameroon), further enhancing regional travel options. The inaugural flight on this route is set to take off on April 6, marking a significant milestone in aviation ties between Nigeria and Algeria.
