Nigeria: FG commissions task force to tackle rising cost of food
The federal government has approved a new tax regime for Nigeria.
Nigerians are expected to pay more tax under the new system the Federal Executive Council (FEC) led by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo announced on Wednesday.
The government had indicated it would raise taxes to cope with fall in the price of crude oil – the fading commodity upon which the Nigeria’s economy still heavily depends.
Finance minister Kemi Adeosun made the announcement after the FEC meeting in Abuja.
Information minister Lai Mohammed added that a “Task Force” has been commissioned to tackle the sky-high prices of food items in the country.
The developments were announced as President Muhammadu Buhari continued his vacation in London where he also received human medical attention while unpaid Nigerian nurses protest back home.
