NIGERIA: How Electric Distribution Companies (EDC) have become the new “killers”
The recent actions of officials of Electric Distribution Companies (EDCs) have put them right up on the list of killers of Nigerian citizens.
Despite an appalling supply of power to their households, accompanied with outrageous bills, Nigerians are now having to put up with the EDC officials’ gross irresponsibility in discharging their duties.
The official’s nonchalant attitude to their duties are beginning to result in avoidable loss of lives.
Several houses have been razed in the past months as a result of fire emanating from power surge.
Overly high voltage are now being supplied to households, consequently damaging electrical appliances and burning houses in some cases.

Recently, some houses at the Oasis Gardens Estate in Lagos were razed by fire after a reported power surge. Officials of the EEDC, according to a resident, refused to heed to calls made to them to put off electric power.
A similar incident saw over seven football lovers lose their lives to electrocution in Calabar after a power cable snapped on a viewing center.
BEDC Officials in the area also reportedly ignored calls made to them not to restore power until the cable was fixed.
A few days ago in Benin, a seven year-old-boy was also electrocuted by a high tension wire.
The cable had snapped and officials of BEDC allegedly refused to honour calls to get it fixed before the unfortunate incident.
All of these incidents point to why it is high time Nigerians started to sue EDCs for their seeming callousness in discharging their duties.
To all Electric Distribution Companies, it is bad enough that Nigerians are subjected to of epileptic power supply, stop killing them.
