NADDC Collaborates with Moroccan Firms to Advance Nigeria’s EV Industry
The Nigerian government, through the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), has announced a partnership with Moroccan firms to develop locally manufactured electric vehicles (EVs) in Nigeria.
NADDC Director-General Joseph Osanipin revealed this initiative following his participation in the recent Nigeria-Morocco Business Forum.
Osanipin explained that the collaboration with Morocco’s automotive industry is set to enhance Nigeria’s production capabilities and boost expertise in EV technology. The NADDC delegation visited Morocco’s National Center for Homologation, a regulatory body, and engaged with companies specializing in EV components and steel manufacturing.
“We visited E-Move Vehicles Company, which manufactures electric motorcycles, tricycles, and batteries,” Osanipin shared, noting that E-Move’s experience in battery technology and energy storage could significantly support Nigeria’s goal of sustainable energy mobility.
Additionally, the NADDC team connected with Univers Acier Steel, a company producing automotive components, to discuss areas of mutual interest and potential export from Nigeria to Morocco.
“Our visit was an eye-opener, giving us insight into EV production, regulations, and the steps we need to take to succeed in this sector,” said Osanipin.
He emphasised that the collaboration aims to foster local production, reduce dependence on imported vehicles, and contribute to Nigeria’s economic growth.
“We want them to manufacture here in Nigeria. Local EV production will help us transition to sustainable energy, create jobs, and accelerate development,” Osanipin added.
