The nation’s power sector, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced that Nigeria’s power generation reached a new peak of 5,713.6 megawatts (MW) in 2025. This achievement, recorded on March 2 at 9:30 PM, marks a step forward in efforts to enhance electricity supply across the country.
According to a statement released by TCN on Tuesday, the new record surpasses the previous peak of 5,543MW, which was attained on February 14, by 170MW.
“The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) is pleased to announce that the nation’s power sector has achieved a new peak generation for the year 2025, which was successfully transmitted,” the statement read.
While the latest peak falls short of the all-time maximum generation of 5,801.6MW recorded on March 1, 2021, by 88MW, TCN emphasized that this new milestone is still a remarkable accomplishment for Nigeria’s power industry.
Beyond the peak generation achievement, Nigeria also set a new record for the highest daily energy generation in the history of its electricity industry. On March 3, the nation generated a total of 125,542.06 megawatt-hours (MWh), surpassing the previous high of 125,159.48MWh recorded on February 14, 2025, by 382.58MWh.
This milestone underscores ongoing improvements in the nation’s power infrastructure and supply stability. Experts believe that continued investments and policy reforms will be crucial in further boosting generation capacity and addressing the country’s electricity challenges.
