Nigerian students in public secondary schools will receive training on how to respond to disasters, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) says.

North West Zonal Coordinator for NEMA, Musa Ilallah, said at least 250,000 students would be trained in the next 10 years.

Ilallah said the training will be restricted to schools in four northern states in the country, at least for the time being.

NEMA says 25,000 students will each year go thorough a programmed called “Basic Disaster Management.”

Ilallah made the declaration at the launching of the programme at Dutse Model International School in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital.
