NDLEA bust fake Diazepam drug factory in Abia, arrest 4 suspects
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has busted a fake drug factory in Abia State.
At least 400 kilograms of Diazepam – in tablets and powdery form – was recovered from the secret factory located along Aba/Port Harcourt expressway, Aba. Four suspects were also rounded up by the operatives.
NDLEA boss in the state, Akingbade Bamidele said the suspects endangered unsuspecting consumers’ lives with the product made with diluents such as binders and fillers like maize – starch/sugar, plus manganese stearate and blue colour.
The suspects, Bamidele said, marketed the product as being from India.
He added that Diazepam is a drug which production and distribution should be strictly monitored to prevent addiction in users.
The drug is meant for patients suffering from insomnia.
