Naval officer “guns down two Delta youths over job slots”
Two youths from Urhobo and Itsekiri communities at the Jetty of the Warri Refinery in Delta State, were reportedly shot dead by a naval officer on Friday afternoon.
The Nigerian Navy officer, who is said to be attached to the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company, allegedly killed the youths over a dispute between Ifie and Ekpan communities.
Youths of both communities were said to be negotiating job slots with an NPDC contractor who was handling a project at the company premises when the incident occurred.
Reports say the dispute between the warring communities was already being settled before the officer pulled the trigger.
Workers and residents of the refinery communities were reportedly thrown into a state of confusion and fear following the shooting.
The identity of the officer is still unknown.
