NASCO: 30 million Nigerian children will eat this biscuits for free

Nigerian pupils under the age of 13 will now enjoy the luxury of consuming locally made biscuits, and at no cost.

The biscuits should go around all children in Basic Six and below. But it would only apply to those in public schools.

The biscuits will reach about 30 million Nigerian pupils every school day.

The federal government, at the weekend, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with NASCO Food limited, Jos, Plateau State, to that effect.

NASCO will be tasked with the commercial production of “high nutrient density” biscuits to feed the pupils.

Nigeria’s science and technology minister Ogbonnaya Onu made the announcement at the signing ceremony in Abuja, the country’s capital.

He said:

This is surely the best way to go as the nation is giving serious attention to utilisation of indigenous technologies as a potent strategy to diversify the economy to provide alternative revenue sources. In this process, jobs will be created, wealth will be generated and the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), will be enhanced through the productive sector of the economy.

NASCO Food’s General Manager Ibrahim Sani the indigenous company has contributed immensely to the economic development of Nigeria in its 50 years of existence.

He said his company can’t wait to nourish young Nigerians bodies.

And here’s what the Director General, Federal Institute of Industrial Research Oshodi (FIIRO), Gloria Elemo, said:

The signing of MoU signifies the technical commencement of strategic partnership with NASCO Foods to fully commercialise the biscuits production technology. The biscuit is developed from indigenous crops which reflect the nation’s best in terms of foods security, safety and standard which will be commercially produced with this arrangement.

President Muhammadu Buhari had promised to give freed foods to Nigeria pupils. Is this the free food or it’s just part of the mix?.
