“Na Buhari kill Fela,” Nigerian rapper Eedris Abdulkareem says
Controversial rapper, Eedris Abdulkareem sure knows how make headlines whenever he wants to.
This time, he takes a shot at President Muhammadu Buhari at #Felabration2015 where he said, ‘‘In 1976, na Buhari kill Fela, na the same old people dey rule us.”
Fela’s son, Femi Kuti, had to run to the stage to stop Eedris Abdulkareem from doing further damage, NET reports.
Buhari and Fela were not best of friends. Buhari was the federal commissioner (minister) for petroleum during Obasanjo’s regime when N2.8 billion “oil money” reportedly went missing. Fela sang about this in “Army Arrangement.”
Buhari’s government eventually charged Fela for currency-trafficking offences, found him guilty and sentenced him to five years imprisonment.
Fela regained his freedom when Buhari’s successor, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida granted him pardon two years later.
