N1.1m Fraud: Court remands contractor in prison custody

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Gombe Zonal office on Monday arraigned one Alhaji Abubakar Muhammed Kari before Justice Abubakar Jauro of the Gombe State High Court on one count charge bordering on obtaining by false pretence.

Kari, through his company, Al-Karim Global Services Ltd, allegedly purchased roofing woods (Timber) worth N1.1m from one Kawu Muhammad Goroma sometimes in 2012, with an agreement that the money will be paid after the contract payment was disbursed to him.

However, after receiving payment for the contract and upon several promises, Kari refused to pay the said sum as agreed.

After all efforts made by Goroma to get his money paid proved abortive, which necessitated him to report the matter to EFCC.

Kari said he was not guilty of the crime.

In view of the development, prosecution counsel, Zarami Muhammad asked the court to give him a date for trial in order to assemble his witnesses. He also requested for the remand of Kari in prison.

While adjourning the case to 28th March, 2018, Justice Jauro remanded Kari in Gombe Prison until the next adjourned date.
