Mysterious disease kills 8 students in Kastina
Not less than eight students of Government Science Secondary School, Kurfi Local Government Area of Katsina State have reportedly died after an unknown disease hit the school recently.
Kabir Lawal, a lawmaker representing Kurfi Constituency at the Katsina House of Assembly, made this known on the floor of the House under matters of urgent public importance.
The epidemic was said to have also forced the school to shut down, as students were sent home as a result of the outbreak.
“The epidemic has now forced the school authority to close the school and send students back home,” Lawal said.
However, the House condemned the shutting down of the school and the sending home of pupils.
While faulting the state Science and Technical Education Board, the House maintained that the act was capable of spreading the disease.
The Speaker of the House, Abubakar Kusada, directed the House Committees on Education and Health to “conduct a thorough investigation” on the incident and report back to the House.
